I have been using portal software of some kind, since 1998 or 99. I have worked for the last few years to build my portals, mainly using the portal functions. After trying a number of software solutions, and quite often patching together programs, that were not always intuitive, I can say that what Tim has put together is working quite well.
One of the previous companies I worked with (and still do) had the right ideas. What is the number one way to get to the top of a search engine? OWN THE SEARCH ENGINE!!
The major problem was making it simple for the end user. Tim, has done that, and has made much of the system is automated. A second problem was people would build and hope to get visitors. This system has an entry point and all the portals are networked, bringing in hundreds of thousands of visitors to the network. Because all the portals are controlled by Tim, he can easily upgrade all components. The Internet changes and we need to keep pace with the change, if not try to stay ahead.
Why would you even want a portal? There are many reasons, but I will give just 2 here.
#1: You get a sticky site, bringing back repeat visitors. And who do they see the most? YOU. This portal can be your main site, or just your main avenue to send traffic to any site of your choice. If you read the sales letter, you will see the many ways to earn income already built in to the portal.
#2: These particular portals are based on locality. I can tell you from years of experience and experimenting that local search is "where it's it". Don't believe me, just check the news at Yahoo or Google and you will note that the last couple of years they have really been getting into building up their ability to enhance results for local searches.
