To help keep the classified advertising system higher quality, each advertisement
has a button at the bottom that says "Report this Ad as Offensive." Any user
may report this, but they must log in with their username and password to do so.
The reporter is kept anonymous except to the portal director and staff at YourHomeTownPortal.com
When a report is made, both the portal director and staff at YourHomeTownPortal.com
are notified and the notification is logged into the database. If a certain amount
of unique users report the ad as offensive, this means the same person reporting
the ad 10 times only counts as 1 person, and if a certain amount of people
report the ad as offensive it is suspended automatically until either
the portal director or staff at YourHomeTownPortal.com can review the advertisement
and decide to unsuspend or leave it suspended.
Having the community involved in monitoring the ads gives them a sense of ownership
and pride in their local community classifieds.
Success Invention #12
The area and link for posting questions and answers about the advertisement that
can be seen by all readers. This is where they are posted, assuming the advertiser has turned on this function.
When a prospective buyers ask a question an email notice is sent to the owner of the advertisement notifying them. The advertiser may then post a response or answer to the question, and both are viewable by all people visiting the advertisement.
Many times advertisers forget important information when trying to make a sale, so this feature helps to fill in those gaps. For example, perhaps you have a 1969 mustang for sale. A question is posted by a prospective buyer as to how many miles are on the car, and you can respond. Then everyone reading the advertisement will not have to ask the same question, and it will help you make the sale.
Success Invention #13
A form to refer advertisements to friends has been put at the bottom of all classified
advertisements. If anyone believes our advertisement is of interest to someone they know,
they can simply type in their name, their friends name and email address, and send
the message. The person sending the message does not need to be a registered user
and this will add to the popularity of your advertisements on our "most recommended"
list.
After each time someone sends a message, they are prompted to add another friend
if they choose to notify of your advertisement.
Even the advertiser can use this form to notify people they want to see their advertisment.

Sales is a numbers game! Pick Your Numbers!
Please note that some of our portal directors with experience in sales get 25% of
the business owners they give a presentation to purchase a premium listing. If you
are new to sales the industry standard is normally 10%. This in no way guarantees
you will have these percentages, but some of our directors report 25% closing ratio
once a business owner has been given a full presentation.
